Designing and constructing our light fixtures in-house means we can accept commissions for fully custom pieces.
Fully Custom Lighting
Commissioned light fixtures are precisely designed and constructed for you by Moon Moon Lighting Co.
We balance our methods as artists and technicians to ensure that each light fixture is built to a rigorous standard of technical craft while also maintaining a warm, minimal aesthetic.
What types of light fixtures can be commissioned?
Moon Moon designs and constructs sconces, pendants, flush mount ceiling fixtures, chandeliers, table lamps, and floor lamps. Commissioned light fixtures can be hardwired or plug-in and can be fitted with most standard bulb types, but we prefer to utilize LED bulbs with a high Color Rendering Index (CRI).
Our material library includes brass, steel, aluminum, wood, and glass, but we are able to explore other materials and methods if budget and timeline allow.
We produce all of our light fixtures to UL safety standards and US electrical/voltage standards, but official UL listing may incur additional cost depending on the fixture design. If you require UL listing, this will be included in the total project cost.
Our design process ensures that all light fixtures uniquely suit your needs. Aesthetically, we maintain a warm, minimal feel with our work. We may also invite more depth into the work by collaborating with specific material artists if we believe it's in the best interest of the design.
What is the process for commissioning custom light fixtures?
After you send us an inquiry, we'll schedule an initial meeting to learn more about you and your project so we have enough context to begin schematic design work.
We'll then spend some time designing light fixtures that respond to your design prompt, and we'll present you with our favorite options. You'll choose the design direction you prefer, and we'll spend more time refining your fixtures. We often need one or two more meetings with you to reach a level of detail that we consider production-ready.
The production timeline depends on design complexity and materials, but we'll keep you updated with major milestones as we move toward completion.
When your pieces are complete, we'll ship them to you and remain available to answer any questions that may arise during installation.
How much does commissioned work cost?
Your project budget will inform our design choices. We will not deviate from your stated budget.
We require a $1,500 deposit before we begin schematic design work. After you select your preferred design direction, we'll provide you with a total project cost and payment schedule. We require 75% of the total project cost to be paid before production starts and the remaining balance reconciled before we release the shipment. All payments are nonrefundable.
Certain design strategies are reliably more or less expensive, and we leverage these to deliver the highest quality product for your project budget.
